Background

A manufacturer of industrial packaging had a website built years earlier on a CMS theme stacked with plugins. Pages took a long time to load on mobile, the product catalog was a set of PDF downloads, several plugins were out of date, and the contact form sometimes failed silently. Procurement buyers visiting from search often left before finding the right product.

Challenges

  • Slow pages on mobile, weighed down by heavy themes and unused plugins.
  • Products were only available as PDF brochures, so they were hard to find and compare.
  • Outdated plugins created security risk and frequent breakages after updates.
  • Quote requests from the contact form were sometimes lost without anyone noticing.

Objectives

  • Make every page fast and usable on mobile.
  • Turn PDF brochures into a searchable product catalog with specifications.
  • Remove the plugin maintenance burden and reduce the attack surface.
  • Make sure every quote request reaches sales and gets acknowledged.
Solution

We audited the old site, kept the URLs and content that already ranked, and rebuilt the rest on a lean stack. Products moved from PDFs into structured catalog pages with specifications and filters. Quote requests are validated, stored, and sent to sales with an automatic acknowledgment to the buyer. Old URLs redirect to their new pages so search rankings carry over.

Implementation

  1. 01
    Audit & migration plan

Measured speed, mapped every existing URL and its search traffic, and listed which content to keep, merge, or drop.

  2. 02
    Catalog & content model

Turned PDF brochures into structured product data with categories, specifications, and downloadable sheets.

  3. 03
    Rebuild

Rebuilt the site with server rendering, optimized images, and a reliable quote request form.

  4. 04
    Redirects & cutover

Set up redirects from old URLs, monitored errors and search coverage, and switched traffic without downtime.

Architecture overview

  • React and TypeScript with server rendering for fast first loads
  • Structured product data rendered as catalog and detail pages
  • Responsive, compressed images served in modern formats
  • Quote form with server-side validation and email delivery to sales
  • Cloudflare hosting with CDN caching and a redirect map from legacy URLs
Business impact

What changed for the business.

  • Pages load quickly on mobile and pass Core Web Vitals.
  • Buyers find products through search and catalog filters instead of PDFs.
  • No more plugin updates to babysit, and fewer moving parts to secure.
  • Every quote request is stored, acknowledged, and visible to sales.

Lessons learned

  • A URL map before the rebuild is what protects existing search rankings.
  • Most of the speed came from removing things, not adding optimizations.
  • Quote forms need delivery monitoring, not just a success message.
